Ready Steady School - for Schools
Give your newest learners a boost.
Starting school is a huge transition and every child arrives with a different set of skills, experiences and confidence.
Ready Steady School is a hands-on programme designed and delivered by experienced primary teachers to support children as they develop the foundation skills they need to participate confidently in a classroom.
We can come to your school and run Ready Steady School sessions for your newest learners, either as a short targeted programme or as part of your school's transition-to-school support.

What we work on
Our sessions give children practical opportunities to develop:
-
Listening and attention – following instructions, staying engaged and participating in group activities
-
Fine motor skills – pencil control, pencil grip, cutting, manipulating small objects and using classroom tools
-
Gross motor skills – balance, coordination, body control and movement
-
Independence – managing belongings, completing tasks and having a go for themselves
-
Confidence and resilience – persisting with challenges and coping when things don't go to plan
-
Social and classroom skills – taking turns, communicating, joining a group and following routines
-
Early literacy and numeracy foundations – developing the skills that support successful classroom learning
We know what the transition into a New Zealand classroom actually looks like because we are primary teachers.
Rather than focusing solely on academic skills, our sessions target the broader foundation skills children need to successfully participate in school.
Activities are purposeful, practical and fun - giving children repeated opportunities to practise skills while building confidence along the way.
